The boys completed in Northfield on December 4th. After struggling the last couple years, these kids came to play. Their first game they fell short to Inver Grove Heights 23-39. With a new coaching staff of Head Coach Aaron Forde and Assistant Coach, Goding Wal, the first game was to see who could "do what". Their next game was up against a Big 9 rival, New Prague. This game was fun to watch. Each one of these kids stepped up their game immensely and made something happen on the court. The Tigers came out on top 38-33. The boys moved to the 3rd place game and fell short again to Rochester Lourdes 31-39. The 3rd place game they started out hot and took the lead 12-4. The Tigers held the lead for most of the game, however, were not able to hold onto the lead.
Coach Forde and Coach Goding were very proud of their kids and the adjustments they made in the game and between the games. Thanks also to Koby Hendrickson for helping keep book for the team this weekend.
One of the things I have always told my teams when I have been coaching is how important getting set and "taking the charge" is. When a player gets a charge call ~ I buy pizza for the team. First game Matt Wal is set like a "brick Wal". First Charge. Second game, feet set again, not just one, but TWO more charge calls! I wish I had videotaped this game, as Matt was set, yet again, as a kid was driving into the lane....the kid saw Matt and pull back. He didn't even test him. That was awesome! I tell ya, food is a strong motivator for these boys!! Now to get a part-time job to feed these kids :)
Great job everyone!!!
